Hi!
Some time ago I learned of the Chicago Family Business Council at DePaul University, which is a resource for family-owned businesses in the Chicago land area. The group provides guidance on leadership and management, accounting and finance, and navigating the social and emotional dynamics of family owned and operated companies. Through the support of its membership, the CFBC positions itself as a safe space that nurtures personal and professional development in the context of privately-held, family-owned firms.
While Dordan is not a member of the CFBC, I was delighted by the recent invitation to write something for the group's blog. I chose to discuss my evolving relationship with my family-owned company Dordan Manufacturing, hoping that it may provide some perspective to those born into family companies, yet unsure what there role is.
